This year Commonwealth Games were held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. It was the largest sport event in Scotland with 4,950 participants from 71 different countries competing in 18 various sports. The Games received acclaim for their organization, attendance, and the public enthusiasm of the people of Scotland, with Commonwealth Games Federation head Mike Hooper. Scotland is the first country to consider hosting 2014 Commonwealth Games in 2004.
England finished 1st in the medal table for the first time in 28 years. Kiribati also won their first ever medal in Commonwealth Games, a gold medal in the 105 kg men’s weightlifting competition.
Australia will host the upcoming Games in 2018. Australia finished with a total of 137 medals with 49 gold. India finished their 20th Commonwealth Games with a high note. Jawala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa bagged silver medals to help India rank in 5th place on the table. India won 15 Gold, 30 Silver and 19 Bronze with a total of 64 medals. England dominate the Game right from the start. England won 174 medals in which 58 Gold, 59 Silver and 57 Bronze. Canada finished third with 32 Gold, 16 Silver, 34 Bronze with total of 82 medals. Medal tally of Commonwealth Games 2014 will be decided on how many gold medal won.
